You can call me Spencer. I use he/his/him pronouns and I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). I founded Confluence Mind and Motion in late 2023 to create a space of work that aligns fully with my values of curiosity, authenticity, passion and integrity. At Confluence, I lead the Division of Clinical Psychotherapy and Division of Sports Psychology. I am a practicing psychotherapist currently working with clients aged 15 and older. I supervise two associate-level psychotherapists, and I serve as our Sport Social Worker.

Since beginning my professional career in 2015, I’ve gained experience across the entire mental health care system—from inpatient hospital programs to outpatient facilities, and from individual and group therapy to macro-level community mental health efforts. In these spaces I’ve worked with people of different racial, sexual, gender, and faith backgrounds. The range of my experience has integrated my practice into one that I am deeply proud of.

My understanding of psychology is rooted in attachment science as well as developmental psychology. The techniques I use during my sessions are most influenced by the evidenced-based practices of Emotion Focused Therapy; Internal Family Systems, and Positive Psychotherapy. I am particularly influenced by the research of Susan Johnson, Dan Seigel, and Gabor Mate. Books to consider include, Man’s Search for Meaning, Viktor Frankl; The Beginning of Infinity, David Deutsch; The Mindful Therapist, Dan Siegel; The Body Keeps the Score, Bessel van der Kolk.

Off the clock, I’m a husband to my best friend, a tennis coach and player, a reader and I love to laugh and be outside. I am fascinated by identity development and the universe. And as a true Pittsburgh millennial, I will always root for the Steelers.

I look forward to connecting with you.
